The Wonder of Sculpture
A tour to appreciate and understand the art form of the three dimensional. Before the 3D glasses of today's Hollywood blockbusters, sculpture was a way of depicting form and tangible subject matter. Looking at a trio of masters in their craft: Michelangelo, Bernini and Rodin, we explore myths, legends and religious images throughout the V&A's famous collection.
Around the World in 80 minutes
This whistle-stop tour will lift off in the cool palaces of Imperial China and head through the miniature worlds of Japanese netsuke via India’s famous Tipu’s Tiger - a life size 18th century automation of a tiger which slowly eats a European soldier, accompanying noises included! - then we land back at home on European shores, imagining taking tea in a Regency Drawing Room and exploring a tiny Italian Renaissance chapel.
Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes
The V&A’s fashion and textile collection is world-leading and this tour of the highlights of their permanent collection will touch upon how women and men have got dressed through the ages. From corsets to minidresses, punk platform shoes to incredible hair accessories, this tour will reiterate the centuries-old fun and complexity of getting dressed in the morning!
Raphael: Renaissance Cartoons
Learn more about these vast and beautifully detailed 'cartoons' painted by Raphael, one of the greatest artists of the Italian Renaissance. They were commissioned in Rome in 1515 by Pope Leo X. Owned by the British Royal Family since 1623, they have been on loan to the V&A since 1865.
